Thermal paste helps transfer heat from a CPU to its heatsink. It is important, but replacement is not needed automatically on a fixed schedule for every computer.
Signs you should investigate cooling
- Fans run unusually loud or never slow down.
- The system becomes slower during sustained work or gaming.
- Unexpected shutdowns occur when the system is hot.
- Monitoring software reports frequent high processor temperatures.
Why a paste change is not always the answer
Dust-packed vents, failed fans, loosened heatsinks, damaged heat pipes, workload changes or an undersized cooler can produce similar symptoms. A technician should examine the full cooling path.
Laptop and desktop differences
Laptops can require significant disassembly and model-specific thermal materials. Desktops have different cooler mounting systems and sometimes liquid cooling. Learn more about our CPU repasting and overheating service.
